With the high cost of fuel knowing sea
surface temperatures before you leave the dock can be the
largest factor in finding fish and saving your hard earned
dollars. The Offshore Pursuits Pro Staff and most
sport fishermen have found that understanding water
temperature breaks will help you catch the most fish in the
shortest, most economical, period of time.
On an early season charter to Martha's
Vineyard last year we found 51 degree water and caught
mostly blues. The stripers were there but had lockjaw. We
returned the next day with another party and the water had
warmed to 52.5. We caught mostly bass with a few bluefish.
What a difference a day makes and a 1.5 degree increase in
temperature.
We have provided both "free" and
"paid" temperature services below and hope that this
information proves beneficial in the upcoming season.
